Results from the February event. Inde Motorsports Ranch event, March 10th and 11th. More info. The Next event will be at Bisbee Douglas International Airport on March 4th. February 5th, 2012 The February event was held at the Bisbee / Douglas Airport. It was Super Bowl Sunday, although we finished the event so everyone had plenty of time to get to their Super Bowl Party. The “auto crossers” in Arizona are so “blessed” here it was February 5th and much of the country had cold weather or snow or both and here it was sunny and about 68’s degrees. The course design came from Shannon Schofield, the course design was mostly a second gear course’, with some sections needing third depending on your cars’ gear ratio, it was a fairly long course design, and many of the times were in the high seventy second range. The fastest “raw” times was driven by Rob Rockefeller driving a 2003 Honda S2000 with a time of 65.468, followed by Doug McBride in a Lotus Elise with a 67.295, and third going to Dave Rock driving Rob’s car with a 68.232. Dave ran in the first run group, the temperatures were cooler and I believe it effected Dave’s times. The “PAX” Champion for the day was Rob Rockefeller with an adjusted time of 54.666. The Class Results are: Open class: I was lucky enough to edge out Doug McBride by just a ½ second or 8 PAX points, third went to John Lawson driving a 2003 350Z. Street Tire class: Won by John Burbano driving his 2009 Z06 Corvette, second goes to Shannon Schofield driving an E stock, 1995 Miata, nice driving Shannon, I thought it was a horse power course and you stayed right with the Corvette, and third went to Ric Prussman in his Miata. Street Touring: Keith Garass won the class driving his 1997 Miata, second month in a row where Keith won the class, second goes to Travis Kelly driving a VW GTI. Novice class: The winner was Frank Tamburo in a 1997 Toyota Celica, followed by Pete Fullerton and third went to Nicholas Haines in his 2012 Subaru STI. PAX Class: Rob Rockefeller won the class followed by Dave Rock. Ladies Class: Susan Love beat out Tammy Butterworth for the class winner, Susan put down a very fast time of 74.300, nice driving Susan. Look for our next event on March 4th at Bisbee / Douglas Airport. Gene Sanders CS Miata January 8th, 2012 Event The Januarys’ event was held at the Sierra Vista Airport. Look for our next event on February 5th at Bisbee / Douglas Airport. Gene Sanders CS Miata Older write ups and results from the past Announcements: You must be an SCCA member to run at our events. Weekend memberships are available if you don't plan to run often. See the News for more details. MINORS (under 18) You need to have your parents show up at the event and sign a minor waiver in front of a club officer if you plan to go out on course as a driver or passenger. This is NOT OPTIONAL. Once you do it, you are good for the rest of the year. If you do not have a completed minor waiver, you cannot drive or ride along. Again, no exceptions will be made. Who We Are: The Sierra Sports Car Club has been holding SCCA sanctioned Solo autocross events for over 30 years. We typically hold an event on the first Sunday of every month except December, when we have the annual Christmas party. Check out the Events link for our calendar of events. Solo autocross is a great way to test the limits of your car and hone your driving skills. No special equipment is needed, and loaner helmets are provided by the club if you don't have your own. Beginners are welcome. Our courses are typically laid out on airfields or parking lots, and send drivers on a timed course marked with pylons. Runs usually last between 40-60 seconds, and you get 4-5 attempts to make your best timed run. We have participants ranging from novices to national champions, coming from as far away as California and New Mexico. Our events are run/work, so if you wish to run, you will have to report for your work assignment on the course when you are not running. Spectators are welcome and it's free to look and maybe even get a ride along, as long as you sign an insurance waiver. Cars on the course usually run in second gear, occasionally reaching third in the straightaways, so you are never really driving above the state speed limits. The difference is, it's like driving 60 mph in a 25 mph zone! Safety is key at these events, and we have never had an injury or collision to date. All cars must pass a safety/tech inspection before going on course. If you would like to attend an event and have never autocrossed before, check out "Getting Started" to help you know what to expect and how to prepare for what could be a life changing experience. Did I mention that it can be addictive? |
